Over pass project on hold

Posted by: tdt -

The railroad over pass has been a topic of conversation in Dalhart for several months. The City of Dalhart was asked by TXDot to form a work group to begin brain storming about the project according to TXDot Engineer, Stan Swiatek. The members of the work group were selected by the City of Dalhart, and TXDot requested a few members be added to the group as well, stated Swiatek.
The over pass is the main line for Union Pacific Railroad which runs trains east and west bound around the clock. Any construction, upgrades or alterations to the over pass would cause interference with daily rail traffic of Union Pacific and could possibly interfere with Burlington Northern Santa Fe’s (BNSF) interlocker, which is also located very close to the Union Pacific’s main line. Several years ago, Union Pacific had plans drawn to include a potential customer in the area; however, the plan never came to fruition. “Those plans would now be very costly to build,” Swiatek added.
