The Dalhart squads did great at the Regional Track meet in Lubbock last weekend with Dalhart advancing three athletes in four events to the state tournament.
The Wolves finished in a tie for 19th place with 16 points, and the Lady Wolves finished in 9th place with 26 points.
Sarah Smith is going in two events. Sarah won the 3200 with a time of 11:35.85 which demolished her old school record by over 27 seconds. Smith was patient until the last lap when she exploded and ran down her competition with an amazing burst of speed. Smith is also going in the 1600 where she qualified in second place with a time of 5:20.35.
Smith said, “I am really excited about beating my record and by how I was able to beat my competition.” Smith’s dad, Bill, said she never quits running. “We went on vacation to Oregon, and she was running up there.” Smith said, “I run two miles to 5-5 ½ miles a day or 20-35 miles a week.” Smith is excited to go to Austin as this is her first time in track, (she has gone in cross country the last two years). She said, “I am even more excited that some of my teammates are going, too.”
