Hartley County selects new clerk

Posted by: tdt -

Diane Thompson announced her retirement of February 19, 2013. She is the current District and County Clerk of Hartley County. Thompson stated it is with mixed emotions that she will retire and leave her unexpired term on May 31, 2013. “I have been blessed to serve the residents of Hartley County for the last twenty-five years, and I will always be thankful for the opportunity,” stated Thompson.
Thompson reminisced about the day she took office as the Clerk of the Courts, “We still had hand written index books, typewriters with lift-off tape for correcting mistakes, and an in-house microfilm machine that we used once a week to send recorded instruments to be developed and copied for our records.” She discussed the progress the office has made, “We are almost totally electronic, and in the future, the trend is for paperless government offices.” The Clerk’s Office has a few tasks that are not computerized, but it is only a matter of time.   Thompson discussed some of the changes, “Few of us could have imagined the changes in the way we hold elections.”
