Posted by: tdt -

Local farmer and rancher Bud Snead received the 2012 Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce Farm Family of the Year award on Thursday, April 4, at the annual chamber of Commerce banquet.
Snead is the son of Claire Windsor and Ray Allison Snead, Jr.  His family was in farming and ranching, and the work it entailed became Snead’s passion and way of life from a very young age. He often walked in his father’s path and learned to work cattle, drive tractors and trucks, milk the cows, feed and ride the horses, and perform the many tasks needed to maintain the daily operation of his family’s farm and ranch. The Snead family moved from Amarillo to Dalhart in 1964.
Snead learned valuable lessons and skills from the farm and ranch hands, and has maintained this strong work ethic throughout his adult life. “He cherishes those memories today,” stated his wife, Marsha.
As well as farming and ranching Snead has served on numerous boards over the past years. Those positions include the Hartley County Commissioners Court, Hartley County FSA Board, Hartley County Extension Ag Committee, Hartley and Dallam Counties Appraisal District Boards, Dallam and Hartley Counties Stock Show Board of Directors and President, President  of the Hartley County Parent Leaders Association, the Dalhart XIT Board of Directors, CASA Board of Directors, Dalhart Consumers Board of Directors, Dalhart ISD Board of Trustees member and President, the St James Episcopal Church on the Vestry and a Senior Warden and the Dalhart Country Club Board President. Currently Snead is serving as the president of the Board of Directors for Dalhart Federal Savings and Loan Association and is the Chairman for the Hartley County Republican Party.
