The Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce will host the annual banquet this Thursday, April 4 at the Rita Blanca Coliseum. The theme for this year’s event is sure to leave guest inspired by the James Bond-007 License to Thrill transformation of the coliseum.
The 2012 Citizens of the Year, the Volunteer of Year and Farm Family of the Year will be announced during the banquet highlights. This year’s guest speaker is sure to add a few twists to the espionage themed festivities as she candidly discusses her career and many exciting moments that brought her to be an author, journalist and producer and the awards she has won and the accomplishments she has achieved.
Like many young women in the early 1960s, Kathryn Childers received her degree in elementary education and was expected to find a husband and quietly settle down. Instead, she found the beginning of a phenomenal life and numerous careers that were anything but subdued.
While working in Washington D.C., Kathryn became one of the first five females recruited into the United States Secret Service. In addition to investigating counterfeiting and threats against the President, she spent several years protecting foreign dignitaries as well as Caroline and John Kennedy Jr. traveling with Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis.
