Hartley County issues burn ban

Posted by: tdt -

During the last Hartley County Commissioners’ Court meeting on Monday, March 11, a burn ban was issued for Hartley County.  The order does not prohibit burning that is conducted by the fire departments.  Residents should avoid open burning on their property, including trash and burning under brush.  Violators can be charged with a Class C misdemeanor.  The misdemeanor is punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.  By passing the burn ban, Hartley County has ensured that should a wildfire occur, financial assistance will be available through the state.
