A Walton Wedding
By Judi Wiegman
Driving down Denver Avenue on Friday afternoon, I was drawn to a familiar home surrounded by a white picket fence. Along with the familiar white wicker furniture and red geraniums on the picturesque front porch, white tulle and flowers were being added to the décor. In the front yard, someone was setting up folding chairs.
I remembered this house; it is the home of Brian and Ilene Walton. I recalled being there before to interview Peter, one of their two sons serving our country in Iraq.
Making a mental note, I decided to travel this way on Saturday and see what was “happening.” My curiosity revealed a story!
At 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009, on a front porch in Dalhart, Texas, Rebecca and Peter were joined in marriage. Taking part in the ceremony was Brian Walton, father of the groom, who serves as Associate Pastor at First Baptist Church.
Peter entered the service for our country on January 24, 2007. While serving in Iraq he met the love of his life, Rebecca, who was also serving our country.
Rebecca has completed her time in the service. The couple will be stationed at Ft. Hood in Killeen, TX, while Peter completes his last year. They will then travel to Alaska where Rebecca was raised.
During the picture shoot, Peter’s parents smiled with loving approval from the porch swing. Between the newlyweds was the adorable ring bearer, Ethan Smith. He seemed perfectly content and quite at home between his mom and new daddy.
