The Texline Tornadoes had been in the regional tournament three years in a row, but they say the third time is the charm, and for Texline that couldn’t be truer. The Tornadoes won their first game in the regional tournament in the last three tries by defeating Petersburg 49-39.
The Tornadoes showed that their theme for this year “family” is important as the family carried the team to a regional tournament victory over the Lenorah-Grady Wildcats. The game was tied at 48 in the third quarter when the Tornadoes finally started to get their shots to fall and exploded outscoring Grady 30-16 in the final 11 minutes of the game. The closing push allowed Texline to win 78 -64 and advance to the State Tournament in Austin next weekend. Coach Martin said “all our players have the green light and can shoot whenever they want.” Martin said “we knew the shots would eventually fall.” The Tornadoes faced a big challenge as several team members were ill including sophomores Carlos Espino and Aaron Gutierrez.
