The Hartley County Clerk of the Court, Diane Thompson announced this week she will be retiring on May 31, 2013.  “It is with mixed emotions that I announce my retirement from the office of the District and County Clerk of Hartley County.  I have been blessed to serve the residents of Hartley County for the last twenty-five years, and I will always be thankful for the opportunity,” Thompson stated in a press release.
Thompson reminisced about her years in service to the citizens of Hartley County, “When I took office, we still had hand written index books, typewriters with lift-off tape for correcting mistakes, and an in-house microfilm machine that we used once a week to send recorded instruments to be developed and copied for our records.” She continued by explaining the upgrades Hartley County has made, “Today we are almost totally electronic, and in the future, the trend is for paperless government offices.  We have few tasks that are not done on the computer.   Few of us could have imagined the changes in the way we hold elections.  I have learned so much, and have enjoyed every moment of working with you, the citizens of Hartley County.”
