Winter weather persists, and that’s OK!

Posted by: tdt -

Two atmospheric disturbances brought light rain to town Wednesday, followed by snow yesterday morning. The light rain measured 0.07”, bringing the total for February to 0.33” of precipitation.
By 9:00 a.m. yesterday morning, 3” of snow covered the ground. Dalhart had been placed under a winter weather advisory, with 3” to 6” of snow forecast. Hartley had reported 2”. Dumas and Stratford had reported 4”.
This is the second week in a row with significant snow for Dalhart, which is, hopefully, good news for the drought. The latest U.S. Drought Monitor, issued Feb. 19, shows almost half the State of Texas, 49%, experiencing severe drought or worse. This is an improvement over the beginning of the year, when 65% of the state was hurting.
