The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) has launched the national Click It or Ticket effort, TXDOT has been diligently working to increase seat belt usage among teenagers through their statewide efforts and the Teen Click It or Ticket program.
The program is being implemented due to the fact teens, historically, have a lower incidence of seat belt use than adults, In addition, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of teen deaths in the United States. The program is now in its third year, and is being offered to high schools statewide. The program is also an extension of a pilot program conducted in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in selected areas of the state. During the pilot phase of the program, seat belt use among teens increased by 6.2 percent, in the program areas, with most teens stating seeing or hearing about a seat belt campaign at school. In addition to in-school materials, paid TV, radio and online media will air during program time periods.
