DISD Police Chief reassures students

Dalhart Independent School District’s (DISD) Police Chief, Mark Wittie has 19 years of law enforcement experience under is belt, 13 of those years is with panhandle area school districts. His career began in 1994 as an officer with the City of Dumas Police Department. Wittie then became employed with the Borger Police Department until 2002. His law enforcement career then led him back to Dumas with the Independent School Districts where he handles the day to day problems and concerns facing public schools today.
Wittie started his thirteenth year as a school police officer with the DISD in August of 2012. “Kids here are great. I have very little problems with any of them,” Wittie stated. He further explained that the few problems he does encounter are language and disruption in class, which translates into a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. “Things have changed. Kids have different pressures and influences,” Wittie described.
