A Texas community bids farewell to a local icon and the man that made United States history. Sheriff Royce Pruit passed away Monday, January 21, 2012. Pruit, affectionately known as “Booger,” will be missed by Glasscock County and everyone that knew him. The loss is felt from the Sheriff’s Department, through the Courthouse and in to every street of the community.
“Little Booger,” that’s what Pruit’s sister called him when he was a child and the name stuck all of his life. Booger also served as Tax Assessor and an ambulance driver. Those who knew him often remarked, “He was a hard working man and gave everything he had to his community.”
Dallam County Sheriff Bruce Scott knew Sheriff Pruit, “He was a good God fearing man with a wry sense of humor and interesting to talk with,” Scott remarked. “He was as fine a Sheriff and Tax Assessor when he was in office as I am,” chuckled Hartley County Sheriff Franky Scott. “Pruit was a mentor to other Sheriff’s and had a great sense of humor,” Franky Scott added.
