Council mulls providing water out of city limits

Looking for a way to grow the city, the Dalhart City Council discussed providing water services outside the city limits, and resurrected plans drawn up in the 1960s or 1970s for an industrial park at the airport as a starting point. Several years ago, the Council passed an ordinance prohibiting water taps outside the city limits. However, business owners who want to start a new business or relocate their existing business have approached council members about water taps. City Attorney Greg Oelke said an ordinance could be written to allow for the water taps while safeguarding the city’s interests.
