Park, utility pole damaged in crash

Posted by: tdt -

By WARREN SLAUGHTER

Residents and businesses near Veterans Memorial Park received a rude awakening around 7:15 a.m. Thursday when an eastbound semi-tractor and trailer clipped the fence and tree of a business, demolished a utility pole and knocked down a stop sign before veering into Veterans’ Memorial Park, where it came to rest after hitting and damaging a tree in the park. There were no injuries.
Dalhart Police, deputies from Dallam and Hartley Counties and Dalhart city workers responded to the accident. Law enforcement officials began rerouting traffic around the site, and the city began using chainsaws to cut up the fallen branches and placing the debris in a front end loader to clear a path for the removal of the vehicle.
