NewsCouncil Approves hotel occupancy tax ordinance
Travelers can expect to pay a little more to stay in a Dalhart motel. The Dalhart City Council passed Ordinance 2013-01, which is a new Hotel Tax Ordinance. Under the ordinance, the city tax on a motel room will increase from 5% to 7%. The owners or operators of hotels and motels in Dalhart pay this money directly to the city. The state charges a 6% tax rate, meaning that the overall tax paid on a motel room in Dalhart will increase from 11% to 13%. The new tax rate will be effective February 1.
