Volunteer firefighters needed

Over 70 percent of the fire departments in the Unites States are volunteer departments. In Texas, the percentage is slightly higher at 77 percent of all departments are comprised of volunteers. What would happen if there were no volunteers to put out fires or responded to other emergencies in Dalhart, Hartley, Texline or Channing? Or better yet, what would happen if the volunteers that committed their time fell through on their obligation.
Volunteers are the first line of defense in emergency situations across the country and most often are the first emergency responseders on the scene of fire and medical emergencies. This type of volunteer is slowly decreasing and will soon be a dying breed if we don’t step up to do our part. Area fire departments are accepting applications to fill open positions. The departments in Dalhart, Hartley, Texline and Channing are looking for qualified men and women who are interested in serving in their communities. The training acquired is invaluable and the skills the volunteer firefighters learn; make them a vital part of the community, give them the opportunity to make a difference in the area they live and offer them the ability to have a positive impact on their community.
