Shallowater ends Dalhart’s Season

Posted by: tdt -

Some people say that the third time is the charm, but that was not the case for the Dalhart Golden Wolves as they were knocked out of the playoffs by the Mustangs for the second year in a row 41-13.  The Wolves had faced Shallowater in the fourth game of the season this year and lost 44-14.  This time the Wolves played a much better game, but they were plagued by turnovers, dropped passes and untimely penalties.  The Wolves had three costly fumbles and lost all three, plus two interceptions stalled Dalhart drives.  In the end the size and speed of Shallowater was just too much for the Wolves who ended their season with a record of 7-4.
The Wolves started the game on defense and used a different approach to the game.  The Mustangs just methodically drove down the field reeling off big chunks of yardage to take a 7-0 lead while taking only two minutes and 50 seconds off the clock.
The Wolves got the ball and were looking good, but then lost their first fumble at the 39 yard line after the Dalhart runner ran into the back of his blocker.  The favor was returned as Oscotty Castro intercepted a pass at the Mustang 28 yard line to give the ball back to Dalhart.  Guillermo Davilla then ran 72 yards with 5:56 left in the first quarter.  After the kick by Castro the score was tied at seven.
The game started to resemble a track meet as Shallowater started their next drive at the 28.  On their first play from scrimmage Kade Willis raced 72 yards for a score to put the Mustangs back on top 14-7. With 5:33 left in the first quarter.
