NewsEntities make pitches to City Council for bed tax fundsBy WARREN SLAUGHTER It’s that time of the year again for organizations wanting a slice of the funds from the Motel Occupancy Tax, commonly known as the “Bed Tax”, to make their request to the Dalhart City Council. The funds can only be used in certain ways, and organizations that receive funding must provide an accounting of how it was spent to get more visitors to the area. The City Council heard from six organizations who have received funding in this manner in the past: Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce, LaRita Theatre, Dalhart Senior Citizens’ Association, XIT Museum, XIT Rangers and XIT Rodeo and Reunion.
