Next fall marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Dalhart Wolves’ most successful football season. The 1963 Wolves finished the year with a 13-1 record, blemished only by a loss in the semi-final round of the playoffs to the Rockwall Yellowjackets.
From 1961 through 1970, the Wolves compiled a 91 – 19 – 1 record. To specifically recognize the 1963 Wolves and to commemorate Dalhart’s decade of dominance, plans are underway to convene a reunion to honor Wolves players from 1961 – 1970 at next year’s homecoming on September 13th.
The reunion is the brainchild of 1973 DHS graduates, Kevin Lovell and Amarillo attorney, Joel Hogue. Lovell, general manager of KVIA TV in El Paso, convened a meeting with Superintendent David Foote, and other DHS graduates, Jeff Lloyd, D’Aun Young, Dr. John David, Joel Hogue, and Mayor Kevin Caddell to discuss plans for the reunion. While college students in the 1970s, Lovell and Hogue researched Dalhart Texan archives and wrote a series of articles chronicling the history of the Wolves’ football team.
