Lady Wolves Cross Country headed to state

Posted by: tdt -

The girls’ cross country team is headed to Round Rock Saturday to compete in the state meet.  Dalhart won the Regional tournament for the first time in history Saturday in Lubbock.  They were led by first place repeat regional champion Sara Smith.  Dalhart finished first in the meet with 113 points, followed by Liberty Hill with 122 points.  Perryton finished fifth in the 3200 meter run with 171 points while Pampa was sixth with 176 points.
Smith took the lead early and led after the first 200 yards.  Smith was the only 3-A runner to finish under 12 minutes as she had a time of 11:42.60. The closest runner to Smith was Pampa’s Tara Truitt, who was second with a time of 12:05.38.  Smith said she is looking forward to returning to Austin with her team and expects much better results this year.  Senior Allison DeJong stated after much prompting that she and her teammates run about three miles a day five days a week, not counting sprints, and that she has run at least 1200 miles in her career.  Her sister Alex, who is a junior, is also part of the team.  This team has put in countless hours in preparation for this meet.  Also finishing in the top ten for Dalhart was Kayla Banks, who finished in 10th place with a time of 12:20.45.
