In the dead of night, Texan judges, crawled over hedges, crept across lawns; tip toed down sidewalks and glared at goons all over Dalhart in their 1st Annual Halloween Decorating Contest. Ghosts, ghouls and famous characters rose from their graves to scare the living daylights out of the judges in anticipation of sightseers and visitors for the approach of Halloween holiday and trick or treaters. Each house was very original and featured special effects, lighting and sound.  
The Dalhart Texan in conjunction with Mazzio’s sponsored a Halloween decorating contest and offered great prizes from Dalhart’s Best Pizza Palace. There were no specific parameters for the contest but numerous entries made the job of the judges anything but easy. The judges prepared themselves for the task with gloves, coats and hot chocolate as the temperatures plunged into the low twenties, making it one of the coldest nights of the season. Judges made a pass by all of the entries and calculated their initial scores. After a quick refill of hot cocoa and a friendly debate the judges returned to the houses and made the final decisions and physically walked each property biding for first place.
