City Council votes to suspend gas rate increase

Posted by: tdt -

The Dalhart City Council voted unanimously in favor of Resolution 2012-06 to suspend a gas rate increase sought by West Texas Gas. The rate increase, which would nearly double the rate currently paid by residential customers of West Texas Gas, was to go into effect on November 6. However, because the city council voted to suspend the rate increase for 90 days as allowed under the Gas Utility Regulatory Act, the increase will not occur until February 4, 2013.
Currently, West Texas Gas is charging its residential customers in Dalhart a rate of $9.00 as a monthly customer charge and a volume charge of $2.42 per MCF. Based on average residential usage of 5.61 MCF per month, the average residential base rate bill is $22.57. The increase seeks to raise the monthly customer charge to $17.78 per month and raises the volume charge per MCF to $4.78. This would result in an average residential base rate bill of $44.58, an increase of 97.53%.
