DPD seizes large amount of drugs

Officer Logan Fry with the Dalhart Police Department made a traffic stop on Sunday, October 7 at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the 900 block of South Highway 87. During the traffic stop the driver told Officer Fry he was travelling from San Diego, CA to Wichita, KS and the officer discovered the vehicle was a rental car. The vehicle was being operated by a male driver identified as Soubinh Vongsavanthan a 34 year old Asian male.
During the traffic stop Officer Fry obtained consent to search of the vehicle and located 31.35 pounds of marijuana valued at approximately $5,000.00. The illegal substances were concealed in the trunk of the rental vehicle. Vongsavanthan was placed under arrest for a third degree felony of Possession Marijuana with intent to distribute and was transported to the Dallam/Hartley Counties Jail.
