The Dalhart defense was outstanding in the homecoming matchup with Friona holding Friona scoreless while giving the offense great field position. The first two scores of the game came as a result of turnovers forced by the defense. They led to short scoring drives of 30, 8 and 47 yards to put the Wolves out of reach of the Chieftains.
Friona took the ball to start the game and started at their 15 yard line. A tackle by Tone Gonzales for a seven yard loss put the pressure on and Friona was then sacked at the one yard line. A face mask penalty against the Wolves moved the ball back to the 25 for Friona, but on the next play Michael Hacker forced a fumble on third and 25 and Santos Rodriquez recovered for the Wolves. The Wolves were moving the ball after a 12 yard return by Dominic Baca to the 39. Skylar Wilt completed a 16 yard pass to Baca for a first down at the 29, but the Wolves lost a turnover at the 30. The Chieftains fumbled the ball right back to the Wolves at the 30 and Cameron Vogel recovered the loose ball. Baca carried to the eight yard line with great blocking by Oscotty Castro and Javier Torres. Guillermo Davila then ran in from eight yards out to score with 4:13 left in the first quarter. After the extra point kick by Castro the Wolves led 7-0.
