By Judi Wiegman
On Friday, June 26th, the Relay for Life event will be held at Memorial Stadium. This event is held to honor and support survivors of cancer. There are many activities planned beginning with an opening ceremony at 7:00 p.m.
Throughout the evening and night until the “rooster crows” at 7:00 a.m., the events will continue. Tickets can be purchased throughout the evening for the quilts that will be raffled off.
The Sub-Debs will run the concession stand as well as help with a variety of games for the children, including a Hula Hoop event. There will also be games for adults to enjoy.
The DJ for the event, Jerry Turner, will keep the music going for all to enjoy.
Fifteen teams are signed up to participate in many interesting events including the Crazy Hat Lap, Spirit Stick, and Passing of the Ribbon.
At 10:00 p.m. there will be a Luminaria Service to begin the nighttime hours. There will also be a “Fight Back Ceremony,” and an “Empty Table,” where messages can be written to loved ones.
On June 18th, Relay for Life celebrated with a dinner to honor survivors and lead into the coming event. The evening included testimonials, poetry and a luminaria service.

Cancer, one way or another, affects us all. This event on Friday is a great way to let loved ones know you are with them all the way. Come to Memorial Stadium and cheer for the teams. We all need to be involved in the race for a cure for cancer.
See you at the track!
