Council passes tax rate, tables budget

The Dalhart city tax rate will stay the same as last year, $0.3333 per $100 of valuation. The Dalhart City Council passed the tax rate at their September 11 meeting. Council members also passed ordinances related to taxation. Ordinance 2012-16 gives the city the authority to levy taxes, and Ordinance 2012-18 allows for the assessment of a penalty to offset collection costs if taxes are not paid in a timely manner.
Some members of the council had some questions about the budget. This resulted in Ordinance 2012-17, which establishes a budget for the city for the upcoming fiscal year, being tabled until the council’s next regular meeting on September 25. Mayor Kevin Caddell pointed out that the new fiscal year would begin on October 1.
