Arnold takes oath of office under controversy

Ricky Arnold was sworn in as the City of Texline’s newest council member by Dallam County Justice of the Peace, Rita Little on Wednesday, August 29 at 2:00 p.m. JP Little also serves as the City Judge for the City of Texline. Arnold is a single father of two daughters, ages 12 and 13 and is employed by Poole Chemical. “I want the community to move forward and continue to progress and grow,” said Arnold.
Jeff Finnegan resigned his position as City Councilman of Texline on August 7, 2012 after being reelected to the council for a fourth term in May of 2012. He stated his reason for his early vacation of the seat was, “There were some things I wanted to accomplish for Texline that I couldn’t get done in my six years, so I quit.” He continued to say, “There are some things we should be doing that we’re not and I didn’t see them happening any time soon.” Finnegan stated that he had wanted to see improvements to the streets; Texline had received a grant for a new fire station, but were lacking grants for new fire trucks and new fire equipment, according to Finnigan. “I believe that salaries are too high and we have philosophical differences,” Finnegan concluded.
