Local Cub Scouts annual Awards Presentation

Posted by: tdt -

On May 31st the local Cub Scouts, Pack 46, met at the Dalhart City Pool and Park for their annual Awards Presentation.  Den leaders, Amy Brown and Lori Quiroz of the Webelos, Kristen Hembree and Dr. Jose Espinel of the Bears, Beth and Dr. Randy Herring (absent) of the Wolves and Ben Fox and Jeni Wood of the Tigers, presented awards to all of the Scouts in their den.

Cub Master, Rusty Hembree, was commended for one year of service as Cub Master.  Rusty volunteered as Cub Master at the last minute in the summer of 2008 in order to keep Cub Scouting active in Dalhart for the 2008-2009 school years.  Rusty had very little prior experience in Scouting and did an outstanding job as Cub Master.  Rusty’s oldest son is a Boy Scout and his youngest son will be a Webelos next year.  Kipper Turpin will be assuming the task as Cub Master for the 2009-2010 school years and hopefully for several years to come.  Kipper’s oldest boy has one year left as a Webelos, and his youngest son will begin as a Tiger in the fall.  The Turpin family has several more years of involvement in Cub Scouts.

Steve Knollenberg with the Golden Spread Council Friends of Scouting was in attendance to speak to the Scouts and their families.  Cub Scouts is a non-profit organization, and it relies heavily on donations as a means for financial support.  Anyone interested in supporting the Cub Scout program can contact any of the leaders mentioned above, or call the Golden Spread Council in Amarillo for more information.

The picnic began at 4:00 p.m. with burgers and hotdogs donated by West Texas Gas and cooked by Rusty and Dr. Espinel.  Chips, drinks, fruit and chocolate chip cookies, donated by XIT Telephone, Scout parents, den leaders and Pack 46, completed the menu.  The pool party ran from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  A great time was enjoyed by all.  Pack 46 would like to express their appreciation to the Scout families for all their support this year!  See you next fall!
