Capital Farm Credit awards the Burke Bell Memorial Scholarship to Jennie S. Spurlock
Capital Farm Credit (formally First Ag Credit) Dalhart Credit Office recently awarded the Burke Bell Memorial Scholarship to Jennie S. Spurlock. This is the 23rd year the scholarship has been awarded to deserving graduating high school seniors. The $1000.00 scholarship is named in honor of Burke Bell who served as manager of the Federal Land Bank Association of Dalhart from 1960 to 1982. The recipient was selected from the Association’s territory of Dallam, Hartley, Sherman and Moore Counties. Miss Spurlock is the daughter of Wesley and Susie Spurlock who are members of CFC. After graduation from Stratford High School she plans to attend Texas Tech University and major in Nutritional Sciences and pursue a career as a Nutritionist / Dietician.
While attending Stratford High School she has excelled in academics being ranked 3rd out of 40 students. She participated in SHS Band playing the flute and served as treasurer her Senior Year, also a member of SHS FFA and served as Secretary her Senior Year, also on Academic Honor Roll and a member of National Honor Society. She has participated in UIL Social Studies, Calculus Team, One Act Play, Accounting, Ready Writing and Social Studies. Jennie has been a very active Sherman County 4-H Member participating in the Nutrition Quiz Bowl, Foods and Nutrition, Clothing and Textile, Shooting Sports, Leadership Projects and exhibited swine at various shows. She has served on the Sherman County 4-H Council and Panhandle District 4-H Council. She has also served on the Sherman County Youth Board and a member of the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Youth.
